This is good basic information on pig production in Australia
(!). There are nine sections and 53 chapters in the 358 pages (hardbound). The
sections cover Introduction, Product Quality, Breeding and Genetics, Feeding and
Nutrition, Buildings and Environment, Health and Disease, Management, Marketing, Personnel
Management and Record Keeping, and there are four Appendices. The chapters are
written by experts in their field and the topics include Principles of genetic improvement

and amino acids in feeds; Diet formulation; Feeding methods; Feed
storage, processing and handling; Feeding the various age-groups; Control of
the climatic environment; Methods of collection of effluent; Effluent

diseases; Porcine parvovirus infection; Poisoning of pigs; Residues in
pigmeat; Animal welfare; Stocksense; Management of the farrowing

staff training; and so on. This book is an excellent introduction to pig
production, and well worth its price. |
